The Big Reveal: Hasse Construction - Kankakee Welcome Center

October 24, 2023 - Governor Eric J. Holcomb, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Hasse Construction Company, public officials, and contracting partners joined for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the newly constructed Kankakee Welcome Center on southbound I-65 near mile marker 231 in Jasper County, IN.

The construction contract, awarded to Hasse Construction two years ago, amounted to nearly $40 million and was a comprehensive endeavor. It encompassed not only the construction of the southbound Kankakee Welcome Center but also the reconstruction of the northbound rest area. This ambitious project aimed to enhance the overall travel experience for all those passing through the area providing valuable amenities and improved facilities for travelers and the local community. One of the standout features of this project is the significant expansion of parking facilities at both locations. On the southbound side, travelers now have access to a total of 150 truck parking spots, while the northbound side offers 75 truck parking spots.

Hasse Construction was honored to work with exceptional partners for this project. Fosse and Associates Architects brought their architectural expertise to the table, contributing to the aesthetic and functional design. Janssen and Spaans Engineering played a crucial role by providing comprehensive design services, ensuring that the infrastructure and systems met the highest standards of quality and efficiency. The collective effort, dedication, and expertise of the entire team of contractors were the driving forces behind the success of the project.

The Kankakee Welcome Center stands as a testament to what can be achieved when talented professionals come together to deliver excellence in construction and design.
